Quarry Operations

Mt Cotton Quarry provides our customers with construction materials including aggregates, road base, rail ballast, drainage media, gravels, sand, fill and Pronto brand premixed concrete.

Quarry products can be purchased and collected from the quarry during business hours. Our quarry hours are Monday to Friday 6:30am to 6:00pm and Saturday from 6:30am to 4:00pm. Maintenance activities occur between 6:00am and 8:00pm, Monday to Saturday. There is no work on Sundays or public holidays.

The concrete batching plant’s operating hours are Monday to Friday 5am to 6pm and Saturday 5am to 4pm.

The quarry’s operations are administered by Queensland Department of Environment and Science. They are subject to the requirements of the Redland City Council City Plan, existing development approvals and an Environmental Authority permit issued by the Queensland Department of Environment and Science.

Blasting by a licensed contractor usually occurs once or twice per month, depending on production requirements, during the day. Local residents who have requested that their details be placed on a notification register for these events are notified at least 24 hours prior to the activity.

Barro Group conducts regular monitoring of quarry noise, dust and vibration levels at points inside and outside the quarry boundaries and shares these results with regulators and community members on request.

Mt Cotton Quarry contributes to the local economy and skills development in our region. This includes providing jobs for about 20 staff and contractors on site as well as employment opportunities for many more local suppliers and service providers.
